Alive at the Vanguard

An intimate portrait of New York's oldest, most beloved jazz institution, The Village Vanguard.

The Village Vanguard in New York City is the greatest and most famous jazz club in the world. Against all odds, the well-worn basement room is still living, still jumping, still making great art possible 75 years after it first opened its doors. This film will pay homage to the storied past but Alive at the Village Vanguard will above all be a living, breathing portrait of a club that has been a hot house of creativity since the 1930s. The film will be not only about the musicians who play there but also about the cast of characters who work the tables, pour drinks at the bar and make sure the show goes on every night. The film will be part ‘Round Midnight', part Cabaret.
